What MRI can and cannot do
MRI creates detailed images without ionizing radiation, but it does not replace every screening examination. The usefulness of a whole-body approach depends on the individual situation and the clinical question.
- Bring information about implanted or attached medical devices.
- Tell the team about claustrophobia, previous reactions and difficulty remaining still.
- Ask how results will be reviewed and what follow-up may be needed.
Safety screening comes first
Some devices are safe only under specific MRI conditions, while devices with unknown safety status require further verification. The imaging team must complete an individual safety review before scanning.
