Understanding the examination
Dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry, often called DXA or DEXA, is a standard method for measuring bone mineral density. The result is not interpreted in isolation.
- Tell the team if there is any possibility of pregnancy.
- Share prior fractures, osteoporosis treatment and relevant medicines.
- Mention recent contrast or nuclear medicine examinations when applicable.
From result to prevention
Bone health guidance may include lifestyle measures, further testing, medication review or a future follow-up examination depending on the overall risk assessment.
